Eastern Cape Police are hot on the heels of a suspect that fatally shot a 25-year old Wade Spence at Helenvale in Gqeberha. Police Spokesperson Priscilla Naidu says police responded to the scene after a Shotspotter was activated.

She says on arrival they found a body of Spence in the passage between Stag and Martin Street with gunshot wounds to his head and chest.

The motive for the shooting is unknown. Police are investigating a case of murder.

Meanwhile, a police crack-down on crime hotspots in the Durban metro on Friday night led to the arrest of 61 suspects.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says suspects have been arrested in connection with crimes like murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, hijacking and robbery.

Police officers from various police stations, the eThekwini metro police and the Department of Correctional services took part in the operation in heavy rain.

Correctional Services officers helped look for parolees who have absconded.

One suspect was arrested in the Durban CBD on charges of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, while another suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of ammunition.
