Police have launched a manhunt for suspects who were involved in the shooting of a six year old girl who was hit by a stray bullet in Helenvale, Port Elizabeth on Monday.

It is alleged that the child was on the pavement in front of her home on Kobus Road when shots were fired and a bullet hit the child on her head.

Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu says the child is in hospital.

“At this stage, it is unknown who fired the shots but unfortunately a stray bullet hit the child on the head. She was taken to hospital for medical attention,” says Naidu.

Naidu says, “We are investigating a case of attempted murder and are appealing to the community as we condemn such callous attacks in the strongest possible way. We are calling on the community to work with us and not harbour these criminals but report them.”
