Cape Town police are working on possible leads after an Irish charity worker was found murdered at a high-security residential complex in the CBD earlier this week.

The Irish-based African development charity, Mellon Educate, says its former Director in South Africa, John Curran was on vacation in Cape Town when he was killed and found on Wednesday.

The charity says 60-year-old Curran had only recently completed a two year contract as the Director of Mellon Educate in South Africa.

Mellon Educate CEO, Niall Mellon says many volunteers and supporters will be saddened to hear the tragic news of Curran’s passing.

He says their former Director in South Africa was much loved by everyone who met him and especially by the thousands of children he helped during his time with Mellon Educate.

Niall says the organisation is assisting Curran’s family in every way they can and warm wishes of empathy are sincerely appreciated.

He says police are investigating the incident.
