Police have been deployed to Marlboro north of Johannesburg, to monitor the area following last week’s violent protests.

On Friday, residents went on rampage torching several houses after the red ants demolished structures said to have been erected illegally. It’s understood the Red Ants were executing a court order.

Some houses were set on fire by a group of disgruntled residents whose homes were demolished.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says no arrests have been made, “The police are still deployed in the area. Last night there was no incidents reported and also this morning they have been deployed to monitor the situation. The situation however is calm and we will continue monitoring the area. As the incidents started on Friday there was no arrests yet but cases are under investigation.”
