There’s confusion over whether Grace Mugabe has handed herself over to police in connection with an alleged assault in a Sandton hotel room.

Police are saying she has not handed herself over at the Sandton Police Station. It’s not clear if she has done so at another police station.

Police Minister Fikile Mbalula said earlier that Mugabe was cooperating with the police.

A 20-year-old South African woman, named only as Gabriella, earlier laid a charge of assault against Mugabe.

The woman’s mother, who asked to remain anonymous, says her daughter was in the hotel room, where Mugabe’s sons normally stay, with two friends.

“This woman stormed into the room and demanded to know where her sons were. When she came into the room she already had an extension cord wrapped around her hand, and then she started assaulting the three girls. My daughter managed to crawl out of the room. A security guard helped her and then she asked who that woman was because she wanted to lay a case against her and the security guard told her that was Mugabe’s wife.”

Zanu PF’s twitter account has denied the allegations against Zimbabwe’s first lady, saying Mrs Mugabe is the one that was attacked when she tried to rescue her sons.
