Police have confiscated abalone worth about R5 million at an illegal processing facility in Brackenfell outside Cape Town.

Hawks spokesperson in the province, Lloyd Ramovha, says they acted on information about a suspicious looking vehicle transporting abalone near Brackenfell.

He says two suspects were arrested.

“Over 40 thousand units of abalone, which comprised of wet, dried and cooked units valued at just over R5 million was confiscated. The pair is expected to appear before the Kuilsriver Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to face charges related to dealing in abalone,” says Ramovha.
