Reading Time: 2 minutes

Two Northern Cape police officers charged with armed robbery, attempted murder and kidnapping will remain in custody after their case was postponed to Thursday.

It is alleged that the police officers were involved in a syndicate that used detachable police blue lights to rob motorists along the N14 near Kuruman.

The Kuruman-based officers appeared at the Mothibistad Regional Court for their formal bail application for the crimes allegedly committed between July and August last year.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Northern Cape, Mojalefa Senokoatsane says, “The two members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) attached to the crime prevention unit in Kuruman officially applied for bail.”

“The two officials, a Sergeant as well as a Constable will be back in court on the 30th of September. The case was remanded for further evidence. The two officials remain behind bars, until their next court appearance,” adds Senokoatsane.

Meanwhile, in May, the Hawks arrested two high-ranking police officers for alleged human trafficking and defeating the ends of justice.

A Brigadier and a Captain based in Vereeniging, in the Vaal, were accused of raping a woman who had been kidnapped and taken to a brothel.
