Reading Time: 2 minutes

Six people have been shot dead at the Enkanini informal settlement in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats on Saturday.

Western Cape police have opened murder cases following reports that three unknown gunmen fired shots randomly at victims in Lindela Road.

The victims – two women and four men – are estimated to be between the ages of 22 and 27.

Police are calling on anyone with information that can assist the investigation to contact SAPS on 08600 10111.

Western Cape Police say organised crime detectives are investigating the murder. Police Spokesperson Novela Potelwa says this is the second mass shooting in the area in the space of a week.

Last week five people were killed when gunmen opened fire on shacks in Monwabisi Park Informal Settlement. Potelwa says the motive of the shootings is unknown.

“Organise crime detectives are still trying to piece together information as part of their investigation into the murder of six people in Enkanini on Saturday afternoon. It’s envisaged the probe will lead the investigators to the motive of the shooting thereby identifying the suspects of the heinous act. Two women and four men were shot killed by yet to be identified gunmen in Lindela Road.”
