Water health specialists have detected poison at the water treatment reservoir of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality in the Eastern Cape.

The distribution of water to all the villages in the area of Ntabankulu has been stopped.

Municipality spokesperson Lubabalo Majenge says there were service delivery protests and the treatment works has allegedly been tampered with.

“It is alleged that water has been poisoned in Ntabankulu, this follows a vandalism of a water bulk pipeline that supply from Ntabankulu Dam. The district municipality has suspended water supply with immediate effect. We urge the community not to drink that water,” says Majenge.
