Mokwena reserved some special praise for his defense and was also happy with their high pressing game.

Orlando Pirates head coach Rhulani Mokwena has defended his players for missing an avalanche of scoring chances this past weekend but still ended up beating Stellenbosch FC 1-0 in the Telkom Knockout last 16 match.

Pirates needed a late winner from Thembinkosi Lorch to seal their passage into the TKO quarterfinals.

Coming to this game, they had scored eight goals in three matches and Mokwena says the focus should instead be on keeping a clean sheet, something they hadn’t done since August.

Pirates have been playing an attractive brand of football and scoring goals but defending has been their key challenge having conceded seven goals in their last three matches.

Mokwena reserved some special praise for his defense and was also happy with their high pressing game.
