The murder case linked to the killings in Phoenix north of Durban during the unrest in KwaZulu-Natal has been postponed to the 12th of August in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court.

Earlier on Friday, the court heard that an attorney in the case had been receiving death threats. The court has also been told that several lawyers have told the family of two accused brothers Dylan and Ned Govender – that they are scared to take on the case.

This is because of racial tensions following the death of 36 people during the unrest in the area.

The Govender brothers want to appoint a new attorney and advocate after the withdrawal of Advocate Kessie Naidu during the bail application, citing ethical reasons.

The Govenders and Jeetendra Jaikissoon are facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
