Phiyega disagrees with Marikana report findings

Reading Time: < 1 minute

National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega strongly disagrees with some of the findings of the Marikana report.

Phiyega has released a detailed statement in reaction to the findings and recommendations of the report.

She says the insinuation that police management went to work on August 16, 2012 with murderous intent has no substance.

Phiyega’s statement comes ahead of an inquiry into her fitness to hold office.

She has until Friday this week, to write to President Jacob Zuma to explain her fitness to hold office.

The President released the Marikana report last month.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) earlier said it was preparing a document for any commission appointed to investigate Phiyega.

The party’s Shadow Minister of Police, Dianne Kohler-Barnard, says the DA also wants to know whether Phiyega has been investigated for allegedly tipping off Western Cape Police Commissioner, Arno Lamoer, about an investigation against him.
