The North West Provincial Government has been granted permission by President Cyril Ramaphosa to give late Bafana Bafana Philemon “Chippa” Masinga a Special Provincial Funeral Category Two.

Masinga’s funeral will be held on Thursday at the Khuma Stadium in Stilfontein outside Klerksdorp in North West.

He died last week in a Johannesburg hospital at the age of 49 after a long battle with cancer.

Spokesperson for the Office of the Premier, Vuyisile Ngezi, says this type of funeral is meant for distinguished persons specifically designated by the President of the republic.

The funeral is granted only upon the request by the Premier of the Province.

Ngezi says, “The Premier of the North West made that request to the President and the President has granted permission.”
