Phalabora Mining Company saddened by death of miners

The Palabora Mining Company in Limpopo says it is saddened by the incident in which two miners died and four others are still trapped underground. The miners were trapped underground when fire erupted early on Sunday morning.

Mine rescue teams; the police and the Mineral Resources Department are trying to rescue the four trapped miners. Mine spokesperson Lydia Radebe says this is the first incident at the mine.

“We will know the cause of the fire once the investigations have unfolded,  it has never happened in the history of Phalabora Copper,  we are really saddened by the incident.”

National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) Regional Secretary Philip Mankge has expressed shock about the incident.

“There are two miners who were found dead underground in Palabora company which is PMC and also we are informed that there are employees who are still trapped underground as a result of fire.”
