Petrol price to increase on Wednesday

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The retail price of petrol and the wholesale price of diesel in South Africa will increase from Wednesday due to a weaker rand currency and higher crude oil prices, the Energy department said on Monday.

The price of petrol will rise by 71c to R14.76 per litre in the commercial hub of Gauteng, while that of diesel will go up by 60c to R12.95.

The price hike is expected to have a domino effect on other necessities such as food and has also has put a damper on festive season cheer.

Price changes take effect on the first Wednesday of every month. The price of unleaded petrol went above R14 in October this year, and this represents the fifth increase in a row.
