Petrol price to drop in January

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The price of petrol is predicted to drop by over 30-cents a litre and that of diesel by 26-cents a litre next month.

That’s according to the Automobile Association (AA).

This comes after the rand strengthened following the election of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa as African National Congress (ANC) President.

The association’s Layton Beard says the drop in the fuel price is particularly good news for motorists and public transport users.

He says: “After opening December at R13.80 to the dollar, the rand is now testing the R12.30 level. We expect petrol will be down by up to 30-cents a litre, diesel by 26-cents and illuminating parafin by 28-cents going into 2018.
