Young and old South Africans have braved the cold weather as they start trickling into the venue to commemorate Human Rights Day in the Eastern Cape.

Justice Minister Michael Masutha is expected to give the keynote address.

Eastern Cape premier Phumulo Masualle is also expected to attend the official commemoration at Rosedale Field in Uitenhage.

The 2015 annual commemoration will mark the 55th anniversary since the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre.

During the massacre 69 people were killed and 180 were injured.

Outside the stadium security officials are directing traffic while police officers are patrolling.

A group of people wearing ANC T-shirts are singing struggle songs as they enter the stadium.
