Penny Sparrow, who described black people as “monkeys” in a social media post in 2016, has died.
Her daughter, Charmaine Cowie, has confirmed the news. Reports say she was battling cancer.
Sparrow was found guilty of hate speech in the Equality Court in 2016 and ordered to pay R150 000 to the Adelaide and Oliver Tambo Foundation following her social media slur.
Are white people & their token blacks seriously on Twitter expecting black people to be sad about Penny Sparrow’s death? A woman that compared us to wild animals, continuing a classic white trend of dehumanising us in our own country and continent? Miss me with that.

All these Penny Sparrow tweets are so mean. Since when is someone’s death celebrated??.

I don’t have any sympathy for that racist Penny Sparrow. Her kind did the same when the mother of our nation died.
