Paul Mashatile to answer questions in National Assembly

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Deputy President Paul Mashatile will face oral questions in the National Assembly on Thursday. He is expected to answer questions ranging from land reform and his role as special envoy to South Sudan.

Democratic Alliance (DA) Chief Whip, Siviwe Gwarube, will ask Mashatile if the government will support legislative proposals to stabilise coalition governments. The question comes as her party put forward a private member’s bill on the matter.

In a statement, the Presidency says, “The Deputy President had also committed to the National Council of Provinces that he would convene a dialogue to deliberate on a consensus on how to better manage coalition governments so that they are responsive to the needs of communities.”

African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) leader, Kenneth Meshoe, wants Mashatile to explain how his mandate as the President’s Special Envoy in South Sudan differs from that of South African Ambassadors in countries in conflict, and how Mashatile’s role complements the work of the African Union and the United Nations to help bring about peace in times of conflict.
