The Incredible Happenings Church of well-known South African pastor, Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeneng, has been vandalised and set alight by angry Katlehong residents.
This is after the pastor and two men wielding pangas, violently threatened teachers and learners at the Matsediso Primary School in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg.
Police have confirmed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
Sowetan Newspaper reporter, Koena Mashale, who has been following the story closely is at the scene.
“The church has been set alight. There’s actually nothing left of the church, it’s literally scrap metal sticking out of the ground. Parts of the stage is the only things that’s left, there’s literally nothing only scrap and the scrap collectors also came to take what they can while the fire fighters are still trying to put out some of the smoke and flames on the ground.”
School incident
A video circulating on social media showed three men threatening teachers and learners. Among the men is Mboro who is seen wielding a panga, while another man is seen with an assault rifle on the school premises.
The incident is believed to be related to a conflict between two families over the custody of learners enrolled at the school.
One suspect was arrested for assaulting the Station Commander at Katlehong North police station when a group of people demanded to deal with the local pastor outside the station.
The four were arrested last night and will appear in the Palm Ridge Court in due course.
They are facing charges including assault, handling a firearm recklessly, rendering security services while not registered, malicious damage to property and intimidation.
A replica firearm and the pangas have been confiscated.
