An overturned truck is seen on the N2 near Queen Nandi Drive in Durban on January 18, 2022.

The north and the southbound carriageways on the N2 north of Durban, near Queen Nandi Drive, have now been opened.

However, this excludes the fast lane in both directions.

Traffic came to a standstill on Tuesday morning when a fuel tanker carrying 49 litres of paraffin overturned.

It is alleged that the truck driver lost control and overturned after colliding with a motorbike and a bakkie.

The motorbike driver was the only one injured in this incident.

Metro police spokesperson Parboo Sewpersad says the fast lane on both bounds will be closed for the next three days as clean-up operations get underway.

“We have managed to open the north and the southbound carriageways except for the fast lane. The fast lane has been closed off. Motorists are supposed to practise extreme caution when approaching the scene,” says Sewpersad.
