Political parties are still divided on how to conduct their election campaigns amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The physical political space has become smaller with the country now on Level three of the lockdown which allows for indoor gatherings of no more than 50 people and 100 outdoors.
Other parties are calling for elections to be postponed as numbers of the coronavirus surge.
The local government elections are scheduled for October the 27th.
The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) says the forthcoming local government elections won’t be free and fair.
The call to postpone elections was first made by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). It has since found resonance with the United Democratic Movement (UDM), IFP, and the National Freedom Party (NFP) – among others.
However, Congress of The People (COPE) says elections must continue as planned.
