Parly relocation to impact W Cape economy

The President of the Cape Chamber of Commerce, Janine Myburgh, says there will be a significant economic impact on the Western Cape, if Parliament is relocated to Pretoria.

This follows an announcement by National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete that a company has been appointed to do an impact study on the relocation of the institution.

Myburgh says there are no foreseeable benefits.

“Business in the Western Cape will suffer astronomically, there will be huge vacuum, but also we don’t know if our economy can afford it at this moment. There will be a huge capital outlay, could be many years, maybe up to 10 years before we see a benefit.”
