Parliament’s health committee to conduct oversight visit at Tembisa Hospital

The Portfolio Committee on Health will on Saturday conduct an oversight visit at Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.

The visit follows the damning report released recently by the Health Ombudsman, Professor Malegapuru Makgoba, on the care and death of businessman Shonisani Lethole.

The Ombud had found that Lethole had received sub-standard care and has recommended that the Gauteng Health Department institute a disciplinary inquiry for negligence against 19 staff members, including nurses and doctors.

Before his passing, Lethole had tweeted Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize about being starved at the hospital.

His family is still battling with his death.

The family and the Justice for Shoni campaign have called for the suspension of the hospital’s CEO.
