Parliament may need a special appropriation Bill due to the recent fire which caused extensive destruction but Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will have to determine this. National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula raised this in the Joint Standing Committee on the Financial Management of Parliament.

This means Parliament needs a special budget allocation to be able to carry out its work as the fire has severely affected its operations. The Joint Committee met with Parliament which briefed it on its third-quarter performance in the 2021-2022 financial year.

“The National Treasury may have to pass a special Appropriations Bill for Parliament in order for us to do some of the things we are meant to do because as a result of the destruction which was called by this fire. So, I don’t know but those are issues that will be determined by him when we interact with him,” Mapisa-Nqakula explains.
