The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission) chairperson David Msoma says the issue of regulating religion in the country is now in the hands of parliament.
In his first press briefing as Commission Chair, Msoma outlined plans for his new term. He says the team plans to build on the work done by the commission under its former Chair Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva, who ruffled feathers when she investigated abuses by the church and traditional leaders.
Msoma, who was a deputy chair, says he holds the same stance.
“This new commission will have its own approach built on the approach we have taken, the issue of regulation of religion is still on the plate, the NCC (National Coordinating Committee) has mandated us to follow that through. I think with our discussion in parliament, the parliament will have to take a position on whether religion is regulated or not.”
