Parliament Committee urges urgent attention to police killings

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Parliament’s Committee on Police says the killing of police officers is a direct affront to the authority of state and constitutional order.

This follows the recent shooting of two police officers in Khayelitsha outside Cape Town.

One was shot dead while the other managed to escape.

Another police officer was also shot dead in Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape recently.

Committee Chairperson Francois Beukman says the continuous killing of police officers remains a serious concern that must be dealt with urgently.

Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to visit the family of the victims in Khayelitsha on Wednesday.

Beukman is calling on the communities of both Khayelitsha and Mount Free to assist the police with any information that would lead to the speedy arrests of the perpetrators.
