Parliament Committee to hear submissions on SABC programmes

Parliament’s Communications Committee will on Tuesday receive a summary of the submissions that were made by SABC unions to the Portfolio Committee.

The committee will also discuss the process of appointing four new Media Diversity Development Agency Board members and the Parliamentary report on the process to remove Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) chairperson Rubben Mohlaloga.

These are just some of the events in Parliament.

Committee Chairperson Humphrey Maxegwana says the summary of the submissions of the unions will be presented internally by the committee following a recent meeting with the unions that are operating at the public broadcaster.

“As we met them some weeks ago in Johannesburg we agreed that they will have to make submission on everything that they are complaining about and we will be getting that report from our content adviser and researcher,” adds Maxegwana.

The submissions by the unions and their meeting with the committee followed concerns about unilateral programme changes that were made at some SABC radio stations and channel 404 without consultation.
