The North-West Department of Agriculture is coming under increasing criticism for allegedly sanctioning the donation of game species and cattle to politically connected individuals. This includes a herd of cattle to former President Jacob Zuma.

The donation of more than R100-million worth of game like buffalo, white rhino and sable antelope to a group of white game breeders has also been slammed. Philly Mapulane, who chairs Parliament’s portfolio committee on Environmental Affairs, has called for swift action.

“We think that this transaction was wrong, irregular, and reckless on the part of officials.  They must further probe into these matters because these are clear cases of corruption in the manner in which these transactions were dealt with.”
