Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has encouraged pupils at Johannesburg’s Parktown Boys’ High school to speak out against any abuse by educators.

Lesufi visited the school Tuesday morning.

An external investigation commissioned by the Department earlier uncovered sexual abuse, racial misconduct and assault by teachers on pupils.

Lesufi has dismissed what he says is a code of silence at the 98-year-old school.

The Parktown Boys high School in recent months has been dogged by allegations of sexual abuse and racism.

Following an investigation one teacher resigned. And the department now want to break the school’s tradition of silence.

Gauteng Education MEC also wants a review of the liquor bar which is housed at the school’s boarding facility. This allegedly caused drunken behaviour among pupils.

Meanwhile, a former assistant Water Polo coach at the school is facing abuse charges.
