The Premier of Gauteng Panyaza Lesufi says the boy who escaped after two children in Soweto were mutilated and murdered is assisting police with their investigations.
It’s alleged the boys – six-year-old Tshiamo Ndlovu and five-year-old Nqobizitha Zulu – were kidnapped on Wednesday.
One boy managed to escape the ordeal.
Lesufi visited the bereaved families and says law enforcement agents should leave no stone unturned to arrest those responsible for the murders.
He says, “We live in an era where children are missing, especially women literally every day in our communities. So we might be here because someone alerted us. But how many other people go missing that we don’t even know? So, it’s a culture of lawlessness, a culture where people feel they can do as they wish and they will not be traced and they will not pay for their sins.”
“We have visited the three families and there is one family where the child survived. And that is the child that is assisting us and the police with the relevant information and we are providing the necessary protection, counselling and support to that family,” Lesufi adds.

Community in shock
The Soweto community is in shock following the heinous murder of two children. Sibusiso Hlatshwayo, a community member and White City street safety patroller, was one of the patrollers when bodies were discovered.
Community patroller Portia Nkwaz says they see and experienced a lot, but this was a gruesome discovery.
“The patrollers were patrolling in the morning when they got a mess safe that there was a body of a child next to a school. the boy had been cut, then there was another alert in the Moroka area. There was a third one who escaped. Earlier this year we found a body of a 19-year-old, but we have never dealt with anything involving such little kids, shoo this is tough. Some people won’t understand. Our police station here in Moroka is failing us.”
Another community member, Tebogo Smith is equally shocked. “What we have seen is really a tragedy. We always see this in the news and this one has touched me so deeply, being a parent and losing such a young child is a big tragedy.”
