Overstrand wild fires continue to burn

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The coastal areas of Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay in the Overstrand Municipality remain on tenterhooks as a massive wild fire continues to burn.

Four housing structures were destroyed in Pringle Bay.

Residents who were evacuated from the Pringle Bay area have since returned.

The fire later moved to Betty’s Bay.

This is one of five major fires spread out across the Western Cape recently.

One of the residents, Arne von Delft, says the evacuations were quite stressful.

Von Delft says, “It is scary. It’s comforting to know that authorities are working very hard and we’re very appreciative of all the volunteers, and the great communication all the way up to the mayor’s level. So while it is fear-inducing, we do know that everyone is trying their best to try and control these flames.”
