The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Buffalo City Metro in the Eastern Cape, believes that at least over R70 million has been spent on the much talked about incomplete Mdantsane Swimming Pool since 2014, which remains incomplete.
Last month, President Cyril Ramaphosa signed a proclamation authorizing the Special Investigating Unit to investigate a number of delayed projects in the Metro, which includes the swimming facility.
The party’s councillor in the Metro, Anathi Majeke, has called for heads to roll in this debacle.
Majeke says, “Since 2014, millions of rands have been spent on this project, yet residents are without a functioning swimming facility. The DA has consistently questioned how public money can continue to be spent while the project remains incomplete. A forensic investigation raised concerns around procurement, project management, payments to service providers reportedly unrelated to the project and defective work. We were then told that another R14.5 million would be needed to fix and complete the pool potentially taking the cost to above R70 million.”
