The Democratic Republic of Congo’s ruling coalition says it has taken note of Felix Tshisekedi’s provisional victory in the presidential elections but reserved the right to legally challenge its candidate’s score as over 1-million citizens were denied of their rights to vote in the elections.
Election chief Corneille Nangaa declared Tshisekedi the winner with 38.57% of the vote, just ahead of rival opposition candidate Martin Fayulu who took 34.8%.
Specialist on the Great Lakes and East Africa and also works on the KiSwahili Desk at Channel Africa Nixon Kathembo explains that the elections was not the true reflections of the poll and that 11 people including two police officers died on Thursday protesting the results of the elections.
“It’s too early to tell on what will happen but what I know for sure that the DRC is going to go through a difficult time going forward.”
