Police Minister Bheki Cele says more than one thousand police officers have been dismissed from South African Police Service for crimes such as murder, rape and corruption over the past five years.
In a written parliamentary reply Cele says 230 officers were dismissed for corruption, 191 for theft, 78 for murder, 29 for rape and 93 for fraud.
He says 13 SAPS members were dismissed for losing state firearms.
Cele says just over 400 cases are still pending in the Labour court and 126 have been finalised.
