Over 20 people injured after bus overturns in Eastern Cape

More than twenty people were rushed to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital after a bus overturned on the gravel road near Nkonkoni village at Libode in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.

The bus was ferrying 59 passengers from Libode to different villages around Libode. Provincial Health spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo says the bus failed to negotiate a steep slope and overturned.

Some passengers were airlifted to the hospital. Kupelo says all the injured persons are critical but in stable condition.

“The bus carrying 59 passengers revered off the dirt road between Nkonkoni and Libode this afternoon .23 passengers were rushed to St Barnabas Hospital in a serious but stable condition and the other patient had to be airlifted to Nelson Mandela Academic hospital , doctors are still busy accessing the extent of injuries sustained by the patients.”
