Reading Time: < 1 minute

South Africa’s prestigious race for people with disabilities, the Outeniqua Chair Challenge (OCC) will return to George, Western Cape, for the 19th time this weekend.

The race, which had humble beginnings in 2002 with just 27 athletes participating in a half marathon race down the Outeniqua Pass, has grown into a phenomenal success, attracting athletes from across Africa and overseas.

The race director, Alwyn Dippenaar says the 42.2 km will take place on Saturday with great athletes such as Pieter du Preez who is the current gold medal winner at the Olympics games.

“We are waiting for tomorrow morning at 7 when the 42.2 km will take place with great athletes such as Pieter du Preez the current gold medal winner at the Olympics games as well as people like Stuart McCready, Justine Asher, just to name a few. At 10 past 7, the 21.1 will start and then we wait until 8 for the 10km to start. At 10.30 we have all the fun riders in the 5km that will start.”
