Oscar Pistorius Trial: Week 4, Monday 24 March 2014

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Oscar Pistorius’s neighbour Anette Stipp has insisted she saw lights coming from the bathroom and toilet windows of the Pistorius home on Valentine’s morning last year when Reeva Steenkamp was shot and killed.

Her testimony in the High Court in Pretoria contradicts the athlete’s version that the house was dark and he feared an intruder was in the home. Stipp is the wife of Dr Johan Stipp, who testified earlier.

Defence advocate, Kenny Oldwage, questioned Stipp’s level of alertness that morning and if she only heard three of the four shots fired. The defence has argued that the second set of bangs was that of a cricket bat being used by Pistorius to break down the toilet door and help Steenkamp.

He also put it to her that she missed the barking of dogs during the incident. Stipp answered that she couldn’t remember if any dogs were barking because her focus was on the gunshots and terrified screams coming from Pistorius’s house.
Stipp is the wife of doctor Johan Stipp who testified earlier in the trial.

Oldwage is trying to paint Stipp’s testimony as unreliable because there are critical moments which she has failed to remember.
However, the occupational therapist maintains her level of alertness that morning was high and her recollection is not tainted. She told the court she remembers the shots, a female screaming and later on more screams that was a lower pitch. Her cross examination continues.
