Leader of the One SA Movement (OSA), Mmusi Maimane has called on the youth to fully make use of this weekends voter registration process.
Maimane was speaking in Claremont, in Cape Town, where he updated his details to vote in the upcoming elections.
OSA says it will support a number of independent candidates, chosen by their communities, to stand for election as ward councillors in this year’s Local Government Elections.
Maimane says the youth is largely ignored in society with high levels of unemployment. He says to actively participate in their own political affairs will ensure that their voices are heard.
He says independent candidates can influence policy and budget in councils.
I took time today with the love of my life to go and update my voter details.
I encourage everyone to check their details. You can’t change the game from outside of the club.
This right to vote did not come cheap. People died. People were jailed. #VoterRegistration pic.twitter.com/W87dxHtAhQ

Truly great and humbling to be with candidates from the city of Cape Town today. They represent over 20 communities and are truly passionate about change in our nation.
