Orlando Pirates who have dominated the MTN8 competition in recent years, winning the title four times in a row since 2022, are through to the semifinals of the 2026 edition.
The Buccaneers defeated 10-men Durban City 2-1 after Extra-Time at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Pirates won an early penalty when Tshepang Moremi was brought down by Brooklyn Poggenpoel, and Patrick Maswanganyi stepped up and scored the opening goal of the match.
It came as no surprise to see the visitors restoring parity early in the second half.
The two sides were level pegging at 1-all in regulation time. However, in the last seconds of extra time, Pirates’ new man, Gampani Lungu, made it 2-1 to the jubilation of the home side’s faithful.
