The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called for the dismissal of Police Minister Bheki Cele.
DA MP, Andrew Whitfield says the latest crime statistics show that police are failing to protect South Africans.
“During the period April to June, there were 181 farm attacks, over 10 000 people raped this is not normal. something has to change. President must make a decision – has to fire Bheki Cele. Bheki Cele is presiding over the collapse of the police service. The situation cannot continue,” says Whitfield.
Cele released quarterly crime statistics in Pretoria covering the period 1 April to 30 June this year.

Meanwhile, The Freedom Front Plus says the latest quarterly crime statistics show that police are losing the fight against crime. All categories of crimes have increased with double digits. FF Plus leader, Pieter Groenewald, says the police are failing communities because all contact crimes including, car hijackings, robbery at residential areas and robberies at business premises, have increased.
“The sharp increase is proof of losing the fight against crime. Also, proof serious problems in SAPS and government not capable of dealing with it. It’s not possible to understand how police Minister Bheki Cele could’ve survived a cabinet reshuffle,” says Groenewald.
