Opposition parties at the Polokwane Municipal Council in Limpopo have called for more officials to be charged in the alleged R17 million bus procurement scandal.

This follows the forensic report, which revealed tender irregularities when the Leeto La Polokwane Rapid Transit buses were procured in 2019.

At least two senior municipal executives have been suspended, while seventeen other officials are facing disciplinary processes.

The Polokwane municipality could not be found to comment on the matter.

EFF caucus leader Freddy Ramaphakela and DA Jaques Joubert stated, “The irregularities that the forensics flagged in their investigations are how the CFO, the former municipal manager, and the manager of PMU paid the subcontractor to Leeto La Polokwane for an invoice which, according to the forensics, was not for work done. There were irregularities from the start with the appointment that went wrong of the service provider we prepaid for 17 million, and we still have a shortfall of buses.”
