Opposition parties in North West have cast doubt over a probe into the affairs of the provincial Health department.

The office of the North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo says forensic investigations have already begun this past Friday.

The Department is embroiled in a controversial deal regarding a R30-million pre-payment to a Gupta-linked private company Mediosa.

According to Mahumapelo’s office, the investigation will cover the Mediosa deal, private ambulances given tenders and other supply chain issues within the Department.

The investigation will be chaired by the Director General Lydia Sebego who reports to the Premier.

However not everyone has welcomed the investigation.

DA Leader in North West, Joe Mcgluwa says, “Looking into the history and the allegiance that Dr Sebego has with HOD Thabo Lekalakala, there is a long standing relationship between the two. So we cannot allow a situation whereby the Department investigate themselves.”

It has also emerged that the Lekalakala is on leave for two weeks while investigations are on-going.
