Only two councils yet to be concluded as IEC readies to announce 2021 local government election result

Less than an hour before the IEC is expected to announce the final results of the 2021 local government elections, only two councils are yet to be concluded.  

At 99% of the voting district declared, the number of hung councils are increased again to 70 – setting a new record of the number of hung councils to come of the elections. 

Only 141 of the 213 municipalities have so far been won outright by various parties.

The ANC is leading with 121 councils and 4 525 won, followed by the DA with 11 councils and 1 440; the IFP with 9 councils and 544. The EFF is the party with highest number of seats without having won a single municipality with 963.
