The vote counting process hit the 75% mark on Wednesday afternoon with the ANC still enjoying the lead at 46.19% followed by the DA at 21.66%, the EFF at 10.32% and the IFP at 4.87%.
The IEC is expected to announce the results on Thursday.
There are currently 43 hung councils that will require coalitions for those municipalities to run.
