The Health Ministry says just under 30 000 people were given a vaccination in the latest 24 hour reporting period.

This is still far below government’s target of vaccinating 300 000 people per day.

The ministry says almost 20 000 of that number were fully vaccinated, receiving either the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine or the second shot of the Pfizer inoculation.

Close to 8.4 million people in South Africa have now been fully vaccinated. Health journalist Mia Malan says in a tweet that this is close to 21 percent of the adult population.
