Police are investigating the killing of two police officers in separate incidents in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal.

Two policemen have been killed in separate incidents in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal in the past 24 hours.

In the Eastern Cape, police have implemented a 72-hour activation plan to investigate the fatal shooting of a 50 year-old police captain in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The policeman was shot in the head multiple times and his service pistol was stolen.

In KwaZulu-Natal, a 53 year-old off duty police officer was killed at his home in KwaNdengezi, west of Durban, by unknown men.

The officer was a detective at the Mariannhill police station.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says they are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder as another person was wounded during the attack.
