Researchers of the Ocean Mapping Expedition are expected to reveal new scientific findings on Tuesday at a media briefing in Cape Town.

The expedition is carried out on a 33 metre-long Swiss ketch, Fleur de Passion.  It berthed at the Royal Cape yacht club on Friday.

The sailboat departed from Seville, Spain in April 2015 for a unique four year journey around the world to map the human impact on the oceans.

The expedition is organised by a Swiss, Geneva-based non-profit organization *Fondation Pacifique.

It was established 11 years ago to carry out theme-based expeditions combining a blend of scientific research programmes, and cultural, socio-educational and environmental awareness projects.
