Nzama urges Chiefs to make drastic changes next season

With a mere 90 minutes to play before the curtain closes on the season, the 2018/19 season has certainly been one Kaizer Chiefs would love to forget quickly.

Set to finish outside the top six bracket,  Amakhosi endured their worst league performance in over a decade and are very much at risk of dropping out of the top eight as they face Chippa United on Saturday.

Chiefs’ highest possible finish is in seventh place, a position that will see them finish lower than sixth for the first time since the 2006/07 season.

During the 2006/07 season Chiefs ended ninth under the tutelage of current coach Ernst Middendorp.

Chiefs have not reached the 40-point mark and anything less than a win would see them achieve their worst final points tally since the 1994 season when they picked up 40 points in an 18-team NSL First Division.

Former Chiefs captain and Bafana Bafana stalwart Cyril Nzama urges the Amakhosi management to make drastic changes in the new season.

Having amassed 42 international caps, “Skhokho” applauds Stuart Baxter’s mentorship and believes Bafana have come full circle as they return to the African Cup of Nations in Egypt next month following a four-year absence.

Pitted in Group D, South Africa will face off with 1992 and 2015 champions Ivory Coast, 1976 winners Morocco as well as Southern African neighbours Namibia. Nzama weighs in on Baxter’s chances.

Nzama is confident Chiefs will end the campaign with some silverware when they take on National First Division (NFD) side TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final on the 18^th of May. – Report by Tumi Gabonamong
