Eighteen people were injured when Kaizer Chiefs fans stormed the field after their team's defeat at Durban's Moses Mabhida stadium.

The South African Police Service has told Parliament that it acted on information it received from the Premier Soccer League  at the Nedbank Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and the Free State Stars which descended into anarchy.

Eighteen people were injured when Kaizer Chiefs fans stormed the field after their team’s defeat at Durban’s Moses Mabhida stadium.

The SAPS’ Major General Leeanne Singh was briefing a joint meeting of Parliament’s committees on Sports and Recreation and Police.

“According to the content of application from the PSL, there were no history of clashes of incidents or violence by the spectators of the participating teams themselves.”
